Let's try this again...

Okay, so I figured this might happen, I have a tendency to start this sort of thing and never get back to it but I am not ready to give up yet. So here's to my second go at it.

In gardening news this summer has been phenomenal for growing food, we've had plenty of rain and its been extremely warm and humid. Needless to say the tomatoes are completely loving it. They have taken over everything else in the garden except for the few squash plants that were clever enough to crawl out of the garden and into the lawn. Just yesterday I picked 51 Roma tomatoes from the yard! I think I'll make some marinara sauce to freeze.

All I can think of when I walk past my mountain of tomatoes awaiting me in the kitchen is that this is glorious! Simply glorious.

Welcome!

Hello All!

No one knows me yet so I figure its about time to introduce myself and perhaps give a bit of background to the blog attempt.

I am a young newlywed living on the West coast of the most wonderful state of Michigan. Yes we have lots of issues with unemployment and whatnot, but that can never take away from the beauty and wonder to be discovered here in this state I love. I was born and raised here and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

While most of my peers are enjoying traveling and getting as far from home as possible I've always been thrilled to live near the lovely Lake Michigan, so much that I made the commitment of buying a house here. So basically even if I wanted to leave I probably couldn't. (Luckily for me I don't plan on ever wanting to leave).

I married my high school sweetheart and best friend in August of 2009. We had a lovely outdoor wedding that was perfect! My husband works full time bending and cutting steel in a factory and he is going to school part time for a mechanical drafting degree. I am currently a full time student at the local liberal arts college in my town. I am a little over halfway through an extremely demanding special education degree. We bought a lovely little home that needed a TON of work and worked furiously to get it livable. When we moved in I brought my wiener dog Bailey along. As you may discover I have quite the soft spot for dogs.*

*Just a quick side note, I tried to volunteer to walk dogs at my local animal shelter one time, and basically had to be pried away from the place. I would have adopted them all. Needless to say I could not go back. Anyway back to the real story*

A few months later we adopted a mutt from a nearby animal shelter named Wendy and the dogs love having each other for company. In fact I can hear the little one barking for joy in the backyard as I type (or is that barking to come in because she is a brat?).

Speaking of the back yard. I am a veggie lover to the nth degree. All my life I have wanted to grow myself some amazing vegetables but only ever got as far as a patio tomato (which I usually killed...). So now that I've got a yard and a house of my own I finally have the opportunity. A few weekends ago my husband and I built some cedar raised garden beds and this past weekend we planted about a gajillion seeds of various vegetables which are now taking up every free surface in our house. So far we have some lettuces sprouting! I cannot wait until it is time to plant everything outside. I want my house back and I want to start eating some veggies from my very own backyard.

I would love to attach some pictures but my camera is MIA and I am not feeling an immense pull to go on the massive house hunt it will require to find it. Though once I do you will be able to see my beautiful lettuce sprouts in all their glory.

My husband is out with the mountain biking club tonight so I have been left to my own devices here at home. Thus a blog is born. I'm in the middle of my first run at a new jambalaya recipe that so far smells delicious! I can't wait until its ready to eat, and hopefully I can motivate myself to get working on some homework, but honestly by Thursday evening homework is the last thing on my mind.

Anyway this is rather long so I will save some stories for later, trust me there are plenty to go around. Hope everyone is enjoying some kind of lovely weather like we have been the past two days and if not, here's to having bad weather some time so we can really appreciate the good stuff.

Adios my new amigos
